The Astan of Imam Ali's (pbuh) holy shrine in Najaf, Iraq, reported that approximately 5 million pilgrims visited the mausoleum on the 28th day of the lunar Hijri month of Safar, corresponding to September 2 this year, observed as the demise anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (pbuh).

Hawzah News Agency- Haidar Rahim, head of Astan’s information dissemination center, said some 5 million pilgrims and mourners visited the holy shrine on Monday.

“The Astan, along with other institutions and organizations, made every effort to facilitate the arrival of the pilgrims and serve them,” he stressed.

Additionally, Najaf’s governor, Yousef Makki Kanawi, praised the success of the security plan implemented for the 28th of Safar.

The supreme security committee also noted that this year's number of pilgrims surpassed that of previous years.

In this regard, the Minister of the Interior of Iraq Abdul-Amir al-Shammari emphasized, “Despite a large number of pilgrims, there were no security incidents reported during the mourning rituals held for the demise anniversary of the Prophet (PBUH) and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan (pbuh).”
